COVID-19

2022-03-21 - UPDATE

From the College of Psychologists of Ontario.

As you know, mask mandates were lifted in most public spaces in Ontario as of March 21, 2022. This is part of the province’s move away from emergency measures towards a longer-term approach to managing the dynamic COVID-19 situation.

According to the Ministry of Health technical brief, the removal of mask requirements in many settings does not apply to health care settings and some other locations.

The Ministry advises that those working in community settings, such as private practice clinics, should continue to follow the guidance from the Ministry of Health as outlined in the document "Primary Care Providers in a Community Setting" (Version 10.0 – February 14, 2022); essentially, what is described in the text below.

Following the logic set out in this document suggests one should consider continuing the use of masks when providing in-person service.

The College of Psychologists of Ontario is actively monitoring information from the Ministry of Health and will provide further updates as they become available.

What this means:

The College of Psychologists of Ontario states that members who believe that it would not be appropriate at this time to reopen are free to make their own judgment about when it is in the best interests of the clients and themselves to see clients again in person.

The College continues to recommend that, when clinically appropriate, members are encouraged to provide services virtually rather than having clients receive psychological services in person.

In cases where clients are returning to in-person service, members and clients must remember the need for physical distancing and proper infection control.

In case of a return to the office, we will ask also you to please read and sign the following 2 documents (the consent form, plus the appropriate waiver of liability).

If you can print them at home, sign them and email them back to us, or bring them to the office, it will save time. Otherwise, please read them carefully and you can sign them rapidly in the office.

Thank you for your cooperation.
